The Centre for the Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor “Cricoteka” was founded in Kraków in 1980, on the initiative of Tadeusz Kantor himself.
In accordance with the artist’s wish, from the beginning it has been used as a museum, archives, art gallery and research centre, it has collected unique materials documenting the activity of both the theatre and its founder. So far, Cricoteka has operated in four different locations. In 2014, the new seat of Cricoteka officially started its activity at Nadwiślańska street in Podgórze. It was built in the site of the historic Podgórze Power Station. The multi-functional structure was created by combining the historic buildings of the former power station and the modern gallery building with the height of 20 m above the power station. The bottom surface of the gallery has been lined with a mirror panel which reflects the roofs of the power station buildings standing below and the entertainment area around them. The new seat will present the works by Tadeusz Kantor and its influence on the activity of contemporary artists, while in the future the institution is also planning to get involved in the educational activity, aimed at making people more familiar with the works by Kantor.
