The hermitage and the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary were founded in 1604. The church was designed by Italian architects. Eleven chapels surrounding the church are particularly noteworthy. The most interesting among them are: St Benedict’s Chapel founded by King Ladislaus IV, Holy Cross Chapel with a bas-relief depicting the Entombment of Christ, the Lubomirski Family Chapel with the picture of St Sebastian, the painting of St Romuald with scenes of the Saint’s life, the image of St John the Baptist with a picture of the baptism of John against the background of Cracow landscape and the Chapel of Five Holy Martyr Brothers, housing the entrance to the catacombs. Women can visit the hermitage in only 12 days a year.
