Thematic villages in Małopolska

“Places with character” are thematic villages established thanks to the activities of Biuro Inicjatyw Społecznych – Social Initiatives Bureau. They encourage all the people who still feel young to get to know little-known places in Małopolska. The project is the result of the work and commitment of residents who wanted to rediscover the beauty and uniqueness of their villages, townships and towns. The offer was created for people who would like to have a taste of tradition, learn more about the history and listen to stories about the past and present residents. Everybody who visits these unique places will most certainly appreciate their charm and originality.

The project covers villages and towns such as: Dulowa, Bolęcin, Gwoździec, Zagórze, Kostrza – Sadek, Ruda Kameralna. Detailed information about tourist attractions in all villages and towns can be found at www.miejscazcharakterem.pl

Dulowa – Lost Village

Dulowa is a village in the Trzebinia municipality, located along the Krakow–Trzebinia route.

The village was established to showcase the professions and customs, as well as the lost village which existed centuries ago in the vicinity of Dulowa.

Guests can try and enjoy:

 - woodworking, workshops with a herbalist, pressing juices;

 - touring the Stone Trail of Lost Professions;

 - a tasting of local specialties and delicacies.

Bolęcin – Village under the Rock.

Bolęcin is a town in the Trzebinia municipality, located along the Krakow-Katowice route.

Many millions of years ago a rock was formed on the ancient seabed. These days, it is the main tourist attraction of Bolęcin. In ancient Slavic times it was used for magic rituals and legend has it that there are underground dungeons under the rock.

Guests can try and enjoy:

 - meeting a regional ensemble combined with dance parties, singing songs and games inspired by local tradition;

 - a guided walk;

 - a tasting of local specialties and delicacies.

Gwoździec – a village under a woman's care

Gwoździec is a village in the Zakliczyn municipality, located in the Wiśnicz Upland.

St Catherine is the patron saint of the village, whose character is shaped by women who combine tradition with modernity.

Guests can try and enjoy:

 - singing together, embroidery workshops, as well as transferring prints to wood;

- a guided walk along the trail of unusual women;

 - a tasting of local specialties and delicacies.

Kostrza - Sadek – Land of the Green Whale.

The villages of Kostrza and Sadek are located in the Jodłownik municipality.

They are home to the Kostrza Mountain resembling a whale; what is more, legend has it that once upon a time, there was an ancient settlement built on it.

Guests can try and enjoy:

 - paper-making, soap making and straw decoration workshops;

 - walks, outdoor games and trips;

 - a tasting of local specialties and delicacies.

Zagórze – Spring village

Zagórze is a town in the Babice municipality.

Legend has it that the local spring and the Lipowiec castle are connected by an underground gallery.

Guests can try and enjoy:

- making leaf bouquets, felt sewing workshops;

 - trips;

 - a tasting of local specialties and delicacies.

Ruda Kameralna – Village with a twist

 Ruda Kameralna is a village in the Zakliczyn municipality.

Everything about this village is peculiar – from its very name to the fact that it is a place where adults can play like children.

 - beekeeping and candle-making workshops;

 - a treasure hunt and fitness competitions with interesting elements and devices;

 - a tasting of local specialties and delicacies.
